Chapter Accomplishments

The MDACC has a proud history of representing cardiologists and members of the cardiac care team in the state of Maryland and is a non-profit organization.

  • Winner of the 2012 ACC Award for Advocacy, presented to the ACC Chapter who strove for and achieved change in state laws and regulation for better patient care
     
  • At the invitation of the Maryland Health Care Commission, will be an integral part of the regulatory process to implement regulations and ongoing performance measures as a member of the newly established Clinical Advisory Group
     
  • Fought to establish regulations to write requirements for peer or independent review of the placement of stents in heart patients in order to ensure consistency with guidelines developed by the American College of Cardiology and other cardiovascular organizations.  Law was passed in May 2012
     
  • Hosted Heart Health Day in February 2012 in conjunction with the American Heart Association and the Women's Caucus bringing over 150 lawmakers and staff to a health healthy breakfast, blood pressure screening and one-on-one consults with cardiologists
     
  • Attend carrier advisory committee meetings as the representative of cardiology. In this way MDACC can bring concerns about coding, billing and new rules to third party payers to the membership and work to resolve issues
  • Published letters to the editor in the Baltimore Sun to assure patients the cardiology community's top concern is quality of patient care
     
  • Addressed cardiovascular medicine issues by representation to state health organizations, medical specialty society meetings and MedChi
